Saving Bees at Tanjong Tokong, Penang

On 25th February, 2019, I received a call from Tanjong Tokong an old lady saying that she got a swarm of bees in her house garden. Confidentially this is the day after my birthday and I thought of having another rest day at home haha..

Without any hesitate I rush to the scene and saw that this is a new swarm of Apis Dorsata (Lebah Tualang). They were settled down and start making honeycomb on a cocoa tree. Yes, you are right, it’s a cocoa tree! I faster use my smoker and smoke some of the bees leaving the queen alone and then I use my hair clip queen cage cage it, luckily the size of the queen were not smaller than Apis Melifera queen as I bring this hair clip queen cage only and did not bring any Apis Cerana queen cage.

Then I faster hake the rest of the bees into my wooden beehive, but this seem useless as the bees starting to gone crazy hahaha.. but I don’t care as I got my double layer of my full suit after the Motorola incident I’ve been stung by the Apis Dorsata 38 stinger and get fever! So this time I was well prepared and I did not get a single sting.. in your dream! hahaha… still there were few stinger went trough my goat leather gloves but this wasn’t so bad after all… just a bit swollen and I waited few moment after the bees went into the wooden hive as the queen were inside.

After that I tie them down with my orange color strap I brought at Mr DIY (RM18/ set) and I really don’t want those dangerous and nasty Apis Dorsata to fly loose in my car. I drove them to Teluk Bahang and then release them into the jungle.

Before the sky getting dark, I saw the last few of them vanished into the jungle then only I drive home and call it another successful mission. It worth the sting and paint, for saving few thousands of pretty life.
